The condensing unit on a beverage or bar cooler may sit in the cabinet base, on a slide-out tray, or remote on a rack or outdoors. On our service calls we have found condenser coils packed with dust and lint, evaporator or condenser fan motors that stop, run slow or get noisy, failed or misadjusted thermostats and seized defrost timers, failed start components, refrigerant leaks at evaporators and corroded copper, and flattened or restricted tubing. When to request service
Signs your beverage or bar cooler needs a technician
Bottles come out warm, or the digital controller or dial thermometer reads higher than it should
Bottles freeze and break, or ice builds up on the evaporator coil behind the panel
The compressor tries to start and trips, stops repeatedly, or a condenser fan turns slowly or makes noise
Oil at the evaporator or tubing, blue corrosion on copper lines, or weak cooling from low refrigerant
Repair scope
What we check and repair
- Condenser coils cleaned with a brush or compressed air, with lower or slide-out condensing units pulled out for access
- Evaporator and condenser fan motors and blades replaced, then checked for rotation and airflow
- Mechanical thermostats with capillary sensing bulbs, digital temperature controllers and defrost timers replaced or readjusted
- Compressor start problems: capacitors, starting devices, start kits and burned spade terminals and leads, with startup tested on a hermetic compressor analyzer or clamp meter, winding resistance measured and running current compared with the compressor's rated maximum
- Leaks located with electronic detectors, leak-detection solution and visual inspection; corroded copper sections replaced, flattened tubing corrected, damaged flare connections replaced and previously installed piercing valves removed, with a nitrogen pressure test after brazed copper repairs
- Evacuation and refrigerant charging with a digital manifold and a scale, checking pressures and superheat, and hoses for propane on R290 units; filter-drier, valve and compressor replacement
- Refrigerated beverage dispensers, including magnetic agitator drives and condenser-fan motors
