A failed or suspected compressor must be evaluated as part of the full refrigeration or HVAC circuit. Electrical supply, controls, oil condition, refrigerant management, airflow, metering, contamination, and the original failure mode all matter. On serviceable Copeland semi-hermetic reciprocating models, poor pumping or a damaged valve assembly does not always require a complete compressor. When diagnosis confirms the motor, crankcase, and lubrication system remain viable, we can replace the cylinder head, valve plate, reed valves, and gaskets as applicable. Sealed hermetic compressors and units with broader internal damage, contamination, or motor failure generally require complete replacement.
When to request service
Problems worth investigating early
Compressor will not start, trips protection, or draws abnormal current
Poor pumping, suction-to-discharge bypass, abnormal pressure equalization, overheating, mechanical noise, or winding concern
A head or valve repair, or a replacement compressor, has been identified but job scope is incomplete
System contamination or repeat compressor failure must be investigated

- On serviceable semi-hermetic models: cylinder-head, valve-plate, reed-valve, gasket, and pumping-condition assessment
- Failure-cause review including condenser, evaporator, airflow, metering, and system condition
- Cylinder-head and valve-plate repair when justified, or complete-compressor recovery, piping, filtration, evacuation, charging, and startup planning
